About Phil

Phil Jeneary

Phil is a native of Le Mars, Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Central College in Pella, Iowa. 


Phil served as Director, Government Relations for the Iowa Medical Society and as Government Relations Director for the Iowa Association of School Boards. Before that, he worked on two presidential campaigns in Iowa and Florida. Phil not only has strong political connections in Iowa, but also in Washington, D.C. where he worked for a U.S. Senator.


Phil is a graduate of the Association of Business and Industry's Leadership Iowa program. He enjoys serving his community as a City of Waukee Board of Appeals Board Member and volunteers with the Iowa Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Foundation. 


Phil is an avid fly-fisherman and hunter. He is a member of Trout Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He resides in the Des Moines metro area with his wife, two children and their German shorthaired pointer.

Achievements

A lifelong Iowan, Phil has a deep understanding of issues that impact the state and local communities. Some of his successes include his contributions to the:


  • Passage of $16 billion school infrastructure bill
  • Record increase in public school funding in Iowa
  • Streamlining of budget and administrative practices for K-12 schools
  • Passage of medical malpractice reform
  • Health plans to ensure vulnerable patients were properly reimbursed for participating in 340B Drug Program
  • Expansion of state psychiatry residency program to include fellowships
  • Secured a $300,000 appropriation to enable food banks and schools to purchase food from local farmers and producers. 
  • Securement of millions of dollars in funding in appropriations bills
